The Building Process

More information about "rebuilding" your home is provided in our Rebuilding Guide.

Construction Drawings

Once you have approved the design of your home, we begin the building process. First, our builder creates the construction drawings. Upon completion, these drawings are engineered and then submitted to San Bernardino County for approval.

Excavation to Framing

Once the drawings are approved, we start with the excavation and go right into the foundation. After the home is framed, our builder will ask for a meeting at the house to figure out the lighting, cabinets and other items.

Continual Communication

Throughout the building process, we can meet as much as you would like. Most clients hold meetings with our builder once every one to two weeks. As we build your home, we will undoubtedly have questions, which we can be answered through email or over the phone, to more closely arrive at the finished product you envision.

Prestige Mountain Homes as Your Builder

Choosing a builder for your new home can be a difficult task, but with Prestige Mountain Homes you will be sure to get Lake Arrowhead’s most experienced and knowledgeable homebuilder.  With more than 20 years of experience in the mountain area, we know how to build homes and get it right the first time.  We are dedicated to impeccable controls, detailed schedules, and excellent communication, each of which makes for an enjoyable and fun home-building experience—just as it should be.  We hope that the following information will help you understand more about our building process and why you should choose to build with Prestige Mountain Homes.

Experience

A builder can look competent and speak with confidence, but in the construction business, there is simply no substitute for experience.

We have built more than 1,000 homes, 500 of which have been built within the local mountain communities from Big Bear to Crestline.  Kory Avarell started building when he was only 12-years old.  Since then, he has worked extensively on the job doing plumbing, heating, framing, roofing, finish work, carpet installation, and many other tasks.  In 1971, he built his own home from start to finish, including the framing, with little outside help.  Over the years, he has learned how to draft plans and be a superintendent.  He has been in charge of as many as 35 employees at a time.  Kory is truly an experienced homebuilder who remembers to keep his customers first.

We have also built an average of 50 homes per year in the San Bernardino Mountains for eight years straight.  We can attest to the fact that nobody has built more homes in these mountains than we have.

Ask our competitors how many homes they have completed and how much experience they have in the field working on the job, not just from a desk.

Knowledge

Many homes today are built “stupidly” making it seem as though the builder doesn’t care, but in all reality the builder simply doesn’t know.  Knowledge can create a huge gap between one builder and the next.

Prestige Mountain Homes is dedicated to continual learning.  We continually attend seminars and building conventions.  Since 1985, we have invested heavily in order to keep ourselves current in the latest building technologies and techniques.

Control

From the smallest to the largest projects, Prestige Mountain Homes maintains controls from beginning to end.  As a result, we are able to give our clients exactly what they ask for in every building specification.  To maintain control over each project, Prestige Mountain Homes uses a custom-made computer program that allows us to schedule each selection weeks before it is due to take place on the job site.  We give our subcontractors each custom selection in writing, so there is no excuse for getting it wrong.  We also give our clients a copy of what the subcontractor receives as added assurance that each selection is built to our clients’ specifications.

This method is the best in the industry, and Prestige Mountain Homes is proud to incorporate it into its building process.  Ask our competitors what they do to build with control.

Schedule

With 20 years of experience behind us, we know that scheduling can either make or break a homebuilder.  Remembering to order the tub eight weeks before it is needed, special order tile six weeks in advance, and order appliances five weeks early is a difficult and time-consuming task without the right technology.  As a result, Prestige Mountain Homes uses powerful scheduling programs to strictly adhere to schedules and to ensure your home is built on time.  Of course, we love to share the progress of the home with our clients, so if you’d like to follow the schedule as the home progresses, please let us know and we will share the schedules with you as we build your home.

Remember, forgetting any one of hundreds of items can quickly bring the building project to a standstill.  You can rest assured that Prestige Mountain Homes uses one of the best scheduling methods in the industry.  Ask our competitors how they handle their project scheduling.

Communication

People often assume that once a builder commits to a project, the builder will maintain good communication with the client until the project is completed.  Not true at all!  There is nothing more frustrating than not having your calls returned, which is why Prestige Mountain Homes is dedicated to maintaining excellent and open communication with all of its clients.  Except for certain weekends and holidays, we return EVERY call within two hours.  Don’t believe it?  Try us.  And, perhaps even more importantly, you will always be in direct contact with your builder, not a superintendent or a secretary.

GREEN

Building green is good for our mountains, which is why Prestige Mountain Homes strives to build to the requirements of a California Green Builder. Find out more about our green building techniques here.
